Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) candidates' protests have grown more intense with the passing days. They are calling for the cancellation of the 70th Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) preliminary exams due to a purported paper leak. To control the restless students in Patna, the police used water cannons and lathi-charge on them.
This is not the first time that students from Bihar have been on the streets protesting against the system. There have been previous instances of students in Bihar taking to the streets. Student protests have a long history in the state; between 2018 and 2022, 400 protests were held. This is surpassed only by Kerala, where 510 students demonstrated over the same time period, with 214 protests at its height in 2018. Haryana, with 253 student protests, is third on this list.

NCRB Data on Student’s Protests
According to data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), over 3,475 instances of student agitation took place in India between 2014 and 2022. The year 2017 saw the most demonstrations, with 562 occurrences, followed by 2018, with 507 incidents.
Bihar: A Hotspot for Student Protests
Bihar was responsible for 527 student protest occurrences throughout these nine-year period, with 2021 seeing the largest number at 210.
BPSC Exam Student’s Protests
A group of ten BPSC candidates met with Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena in the state capital of Patna on Monday to voice their complaints. The government of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has not yet released a formal statement regarding the calls for the December 13 BPSC preliminary exams to be canceled and reexamined.
With the exception of the Bapu Exam Center in Patna, all other 911 centers held their exams without incident, and there were no reports of violence or paper leaks, BPSC Secretary Satya Prakash Sharma told the media.
