Cabinet approves MoU between India, UK to improve public transport

The Union Cabinet chaired by Narendra Modi has approved the signing and implementation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highways and London’s transportation authority ‘Transport for London’ to improve public transport in the country.

The Union Cabinet on 3 January 2018 approved the signing and implementation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highways and London’s transportation authority ‘Transport for London’ to improve public transport in the country. The cabinet was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The agreement is aimed to help improve the overall public transport system in India, improve passenger services and promote the use of high capacity buses in India. The agreement is expected to go a long way in strengthening ties and promoting bilateral relations between India and the United Kingdom.

Further, it will help in strengthening the integrated public transport for all. The move will, in turn, help people from the poorer strata of the society to have smooth access to a quality public transport system.

Transport for London is a statutory body established under the Greater London Authority Act, 1999 (UK).
