China, on 18 January 2011, announced 1.52 million US dollars as a flood relief for Sri Lanka. Moreover, the Red Cross Society of China would provide 30000 dollars to Sri Lanka in addition to this. Flooding has affected Sri Lanka severely. Almost one million people were displaced and 40 people died because of flood.
In recent years, China has become one of the top donor countries of Sri Lanka. In 2009, China emerged as Sri Lanka’s single largest donor. In fact, China’s financial assistance to developing countries exceeded the development organisations like Asian Development Bank and the World Bank in 2009.
