President pays tribute to 26/11 Mumbai Attack Victims

• President Ram Nath Kovind on November 26, 2018 paid tributes to the victims of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks on its 10th anniversary.  
• In a tweet, the President said that ten years after the Mumbai terror attacks, his thoughts were with families and individuals who suffered.
• He also added saying that the country salutes those from the police and security forces who made the supreme sacrifice that day and that India remains honour-bound to securing justice and defeating terrorism.

US calls upon Pakistan to implement UNSC sanctions against 26/11 perpetrators

• Describing the Mumbai terror attack as a barbarity, the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on November 26, 2018 called upon Pakistan and other nations to uphold their UN Security Council obligations to implement sanctions against those responsible for the atrocity, including Lashkar-e-Taiba and its affiliates.
• Pompeo said in a statement on the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attack it is an affront to the families of the victims that, after ten years, those who planned the Mumbai attack have still not been convicted for their involvement.  
• He said the United State is committed to seeing that those responsible for the attack face justice.

Dehradun airport to be renamed after Vajpayee

• The Uttarakhand government on November 25, 2018 decided to rename the Dehradun airport after former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpaye.
• The proposal to rename the Jolly Grant airport after Vajpayee was approved by the state cabinet at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat.
• The cabinet also gave its nod to the setting up of the Uttarakhand State Agency For Public Services to ensure time-bound delivery of services and redressal of complaints.
• The cabinet cleared a total of 27 proposals, including convening a three-day Winter Session of the Assembly from December 4.

Former Union Minister Ambareesh passes away

• Kannada actor and politician Ambareesh passed away on November 24, 2018 due to cardiac arrest, sources said. He was 66.
• A former Union minister, Ambareesh was rushed to a private hospital at around 9 pm after he complained of breathing problems and died shortly thereafter.
• He is a three-time Lok Sabha member and also a former state minister, had not been keeping well in recent years. He is survived by actress Sumalatha and a son.
• Known as a "rebel star", Ambareesh had acted in over 200 films and had carved a niche for himself in the Kannada film industry.

Kerala Water Resources minister Mathew Thomas resigns

• Kerala Water Resources Minister Mathew T Thomas, a nominee of the Janata Dal (Secular) in the CPI (M)-led LDF government, submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on November 26, 2018. • The move comes after the JD(S), a key partner in the LDF, decided to replace Thomas with Chittur MLA K Krishnankutty.
• Thomas handed over the resignation letter to Pinarayi Vijayan at the latter's official residence, Cliff House, on the morning of November 26.
• On his performance as a minister in the last two and half years, Thomas said he cannot say he was fully satisfied, but was happy as he could take up various activities during his tenure in the water resources department.

UN selects Noida, Greater Noida to participate in Global Sustainable Cities 2025 initiative

• The United Nations has selected Uttar Pradesh's Noida and Greater Noida to participate in its Global Sustainable Cities 2025 initiative.
• The twin-cities in Gautam Buddh Nagar district, adjoining the national capital, have been selected in the "University City" category ahead of Mumbai and Bengaluru as the only invitee from India.
• Overall, 25 cities across the world have been selected in five categories by the UN Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) cities initiative.
• The SDGs, otherwise known as the Global Goals, are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

Bihar CM unveils 70 ft tall Lord Buddha's statue in Rajgir

• Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar unveiled a 70-feet tall statue of Lord Buddha at Rajgir in Nalanda district on November 25, 2018.
• It is the second tallest statue of Buddha in the country. It was unveiled in the presence of Mahabodhi temple's chief monk Bhante Chalinda amid the chanting of hymns.
• The statue has been installed above a 16 metre radius pedestal in the middle of the lake Ghora Katora and has been made from 45,000 cubic foot pink sand stone.
• Ghora Katora lake is a natural lake surrounded by five hills. Besides the statue, a beautiful park is being developed there from tourism point of view, to help the area emerge as an important place for eco-tourism.
• No petrol and diesel vehicles will be allowed to ply there and only electronic vehicles will be allowed to do so.

IFFI nominates 12 movies for ICFT UNESCO Gandhi Medal

• The International Film Festival of India (IFFI) has nominated 12 movies for this year’s International Council for Film, Television and Audio-visual Communication (ICFT) UNESCO Gandhi Medal.
• Of these 12 films, two are from India and the rest are foreign movies.
• The two Indian movies competing for the honour are Tamil film ‘Baaram’ and Ladakhi movie ‘Walking with the Wind’.

First-ever India Russia Strategic Economic Dialogue being held

• The first-ever India Russia Strategic Economic Dialogue was held at St. Petersburg in Russia on November 25, 2018.
• The Indian side was led by NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar, while the Russian delegation was headed by Economic Development Minister Maxim Oreshkin.
• The two-day forum is expected to bring together key business figures from both countries. The participants will discuss the development of bilateral ties in trade, investment, technology and industry.
• Transport, agriculture and agro-processing, small and medium enterprises, digital transformation and frontier technologies and industrial cooperation are some of the key areas of focus.

Harmanpreet Kaur named captain of ICC Women's World Twenty20 XI

• India's batting star Harmanpreet Kaur was on November 26, 2018 named the captain of the ICC Women's World Twenty20 XI, which also features Indian opener Smriti Mandhana and leg-spinner Poonam Yadav.
• The Women's World Twenty20 XI was decided upon by an ICC selection panel in Dubai on the basis of the players' performances in the tournament that concluded on November 24 with Australia winning the title.
• Besides the Indian players, three players from England, two from Australia and one each from Pakistan, New Zealand and the West Indies were named in the eleven.

Sri Lanka's SC forms bench to decide upon President’s proclamation

• Sri Lanka's Supreme Court has constituted a seven-judge bench to decide upon President’s proclamation to dissolve the parliament.
• A three-judge bench of Supreme Court had earlier issued stay order after several parties filed petitions against dissolving of Parliament and further hearing will be held next week to decide upon the matter.
• Another court of appeal has decided to take up the petition of Quo Warranto filed by 122 MPs challenging Mahinda Rajapaksa’s authority to hold the office of Prime Minister on November 30, 2018 after a no-confidence motion was passed in Parliament against him.
• MPs led by Rajapaksa and President Maithripala Sirsena have disputed the no-confidence motion saying it was not carried as per procedure.
• In another development, United National Party (UNP) led by ousted Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has called on the President to subject himself to a probe proposed to inquire into the corruption that took place during Wickremsinghe tenure.
