1. (a) EU Parliament

European Parliament President David Sassoli passed away early on January 11, 2022 in a hospital in Italy. He was 65. Sassoli had led the European Union body that approves or rejects legislations and is responsible for establishing budgets and supervises a combination of institutions.

2. (d) Tamil Nadu 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will 11 new government medical colleges in Tamil Nadu through video conferencing on January 12, 2022. He will also inaugurate the new campus of the Central Institute of Classical Tamil in Chennai.

3. (a) Vodafone Idea

The Indian government will own a 36 percent stake in Vodafone Idea, the country's third-largest wireless phone operator in a new rescue plan. The news came after the company board during its meeting on January 10th approved the conversion of the full amount of interest related to spectrum auction installments and Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR) Dues into equity.

4. (d) Tata Group

Tata will replace Vivo as the title sponsor of IPL 2022. This was confirmed by IPL Chairman Brijesh Patel on January 11, 2022. Vivo still had two years left in its sponsorship deal, Tata group will now remain the main sponsor during this period.

Lata Mangeshkar is one of the most respected singers in India, popularly known as the Nightingale of India.The three-time National Award winner has been honoured with multiple prestigious awards and recognitions. She is the only second vocalist after M. S. Subbulakshmi to receive India's highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna in 2001. 

6. (d) Kazakhstan 

Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced in a press conference on January 11, 2022 that the Russia-led peacekeepers have completed their mission and will be withdrawing from the country on January 13. The peacekeepers were deployed in Kazakhstan upon the request of the Kazakhstan President after violent protests broke out in the nation last week that left at least 164 killed.

7. (c) Lal Bahadur Shastri

India observes the death anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri on January 11 every year who passed away on this day in 1966 in Tashkent (present-day Uzbekistan). He was India’s second Prime Minister, who succeeded Jawaharlal Nehru. He was posthumously honoured with the Bharat Ratna, becoming its first posthumous recipient.
