1. (a) Narendra Goenka

Narendra Kumar Goenka took charge as the new Chairman of the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) during its executive committee meeting held on January 17, 2022. Goenka succeeds Padma Shri awardee Dr. A Sakthivel in the position. A Sakthivel had been appointed to the position for the period 2020-21.

The annual Beating the Retreat ceremony will take place in the national capital on January 29, 2022. The ceremony will comprise a show of nearly 1,000 drones by an IIT-Delhi-based startup. The show will commemorate 75 years of India's independence.

Data day will be celebrated across all smart cities in the country on January 21st. The day aims to engage people from different backgrounds including the private sector and government agencies, academic and scientific institutions, startups and businesses.

The International Labour Organisation (ILO), in its report titled “World Employment and Social Outlook”, has projected global unemployment to reach 207 million in 2022, almost 21 million more than 2019.

Poland's Robert Lewandowski won the Best FIFA Men's Player Award on January 17, 2022. This is the second consecutive time that Lewandowski has won the award. Spain's Alexia Putellas won the Best FIFA Women's Player award. The BEST FIFA Football Awards 2022 ceremony was held virtually from Zurich.
