This Diwali, Ayodhya set two Guinness World Records during its eighth Deepotsav celebration. The city achieved records for the largest display of oil lamps and the highest number of people performing 'aarti' at the same time.
The events took place across 55 ghats along the holy Saryu River, including Ram ki Paidi. More than 2.5 million earthen lamps (diyas) were lit together, while 1,121 'vedacharyas' (religious teachers) performed 'aarti' at the same time. Drones were used to count the diyas.
Guinness World Record in Ayodhya
A total of 1,121 people attended the mass aarti event, which was organized in cooperation with the Saryu Aarti Samiti, Ayodhya's district government, and UP Tourism. Among them were community members and volunteers, as well as instructors and students from Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University and nearby institutions.
Guinness Confirms Ayodhya’s New Records
To verify the record attempts, Guinness adjudicator Pravin Patel and consultant Nischal Bharot traveled to Ayodhya. At the Deepotsav event, Patel congratulated the city on this significant milestone and announced its accomplishments.
Guinness World Record for Largest Oil light Display
In a different accomplishment, Ayodhya set the record for the largest oil light display, officially counting 25,12,585 diyas, as confirmed by the Guinness team. This exceeded the previous year's record of 22,23,676 diyas, indicating the event's growing scope.
Since 2017, Ayodhya has observed Deepotsav every year, and its celebration has grown significantly in size. Starting with 1.71 lakh diyas in its first year, the festival has broken records each time, reaching 22.23 lakh diyas last year and over 25 lakh this year.
