The General Motors on 17 November 2012 announced its plans of expanding its annual commissioning capacity at Hallo Plant in Gujarat to 1.10 lakh units per year. The Halol Plant at present has an annual production capacity of 85000 units.
The expansion plan came into force because the company is geared to launch a new eight-seater multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) from its Shanghai Automotive Industries Corp (SAIC) platform. General Motors in the recent past raised its stake as a shareholder in the equal joint venture with SAIC to 91 percent and regained its complete control over the corporation.
The company in 2011 sold 111510 units and by October 2012, the Company has already sold about 78100 units in India. In Gujarat the General Motors sold 11500 units in 2011 and it’s expected that by the year ends, it would be successful in sailing 10000 in the state.
