In a significant update, getting your Ayushman card made has become even more easy and convenient. You can now create your Ayushman card right from your smartphone, without leaving the comfort of your home. The National Health Authority (NHA) recently shared this information via a tweet, in which one can learn the step-by-step instructions for making your own Ayushman Card.

Earlier, if one wanted to apply for this scheme, he/she had to get the process done through customer service centers. While this option still remains available to the general public, there's now an even more convenient method. You can now easily create your Ayushman card from the comfort of your home using your smartphone.

Future Plan for Ayushman Bharat Yojana

The Indian government is planning to expand its flagship Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme over the next three years. The proposed changes aim to include individuals over 70 and increase the insurance coverage to Rs 10 lakh per year. This move is expected to provide significant relief, as medical expenses are a major cause of debt for many families.

A report by PTI suggests that these proposals, or parts of them, might be announced in the upcoming Union Budget on July 23. If implemented, the expanded coverage will offer a vital safety net for older adults and help reduce financial strain caused by unexpected medical costs.

What is Ayushman Bharat Yojana?

Ayushman Bharat Yojana, one of the world's largest healthcare programs, was launched in September 2018. This scheme aims to provide coverage to over 500 million Indians, particularly those from economically weaker backgrounds. 

The policy offers health insurance with a maximum coverage of Rs 5 lakh, covering most medical treatment costs, prescription drugs, diagnostic tests, and pre-hospitalization charges. Beneficiaries can use the Ayushman health card to access cashless hospitalization at any government-accredited hospital in the country.

Get Your Ayushman Card in 5 Easy Steps

Targeting a total of 500 million individual beneficiaries, the Ayushman Bharat scheme seeks to offer healthcare to 100 million households, including 80 million in rural areas and 23.3 million in urban areas.

Step 1: Download the ‘Ayushman’ App from the Google Play Store or beneficiary.nha.gov.in, or scan the QR code given in the above picture.

Step 2: Enter your mobile number and fill in the OTP received on the phone to create a user login. 

Step 3: Check your eligibility through your name, ration card, or Aadhaar number. 

Step 4: If eligible, verify your and your family members' details through Aadhaar e-KYC (e.g. Face Auth, Mobile OTP).

Step 5: After filling in all the required details, take your photo from your mobile and upload it. Once the verification process is complete, you can download your Ayushman card.

How to Check Eligibility?

A person applying for this scheme must belong to particular categories such as SC/ST, Lower Income Group, or Economically Weaker Sections (EWS).

You can follow the given steps to determine if you are eligible for the Ayushman Bharat Yojana online:

Step 1: Visit the official website of Ayushman Bharat Yojana, pmjay.gov.in

Step 2: Click on 'Am I Eligible' tab on the upper side of the homepage

Step 3: Enter your mobile number and captcha code in the designated field

Step 4: Click on 'Generate OTP'

Step 5: Fill in the OTP, received on your phone, then select "Verify OTP"

Step 6: Enter your personal information, including your name, age, family members, state, and income

Step 7: Click "Submit"
