Following the recent increase in dearness allowance (DA) for July-December, central government employees and pensioners are now eagerly waiting for the news about the 8th Pay Commission.
Traditionally, a new pay commission is introduced every 10 years. It has been 10 years since the government implemented the 7th Pay Commission. There is an anticipation among the central employees that the government may soon make a decision. However, no official announcement has been made yet.
8th Pay Commission Date
The 8th Pay Commission might be announced early next year, possibly during the Union Budget 2025. A union leader mentioned that this could be the "right time" because the 7th Pay Commission also took 18 months to complete its recommendations, which were implemented in January 2016.
New Salary Under 8th Pay Commission
The 8th Pay Commission is expected to increase the salaries and pensions of government employees and pensioners. The increment in the salary is decided by considering inflation and other economic factors.
If the 8th Pay Commission's recommendations are implemented, the minimum salary for central government employees may increase from ₹18,000 to around ₹34,560, which is about a 92% raise. Similarly, the minimum pension for retirees could rise to ₹17,280.
This change might provide significant relief to employees and pensioners, taking into account inflation and other economic factors.
JCM meeting in November
According to a report by NDTV Profit, a Joint Consultative Machinery (JCM) meeting will be held in November. This forum helps resolve disputes between the government and the employees. The JCM National Council is led by the Union Cabinet Secretary and includes representatives from recognized employee unions and service associations.
When was the 7th Pay Commission implemented?
In India, central government employees receive their salaries based on the Pay Commission system. The Indian government formed the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC) on February 28, 2014.
