India became permanent signatory to Washington Accord

India on 13 June 2014 became a member of select group of 17 countries who are permanent signatories of Washington Accord.

India on 13 June 2014 became a permanent signatory to Washington Accord. The Accord was signed by National Board of Accreditation at a meet of International Engineering Alliance of WA member countries held in Wellington, New Zealand.

With India becoming the permanent signatory, India joined a select group of 17 countries who are permanent signatories of the Washington Accord (WA). The signatory status will substantially increased global employment opportunities for technical and engineering graduates of India.


To carry out comprehensive review and audit of NBA accreditation systems and Practices, a review team was sent by the International Engineering Alliance (IEA) Secretariat of the Washington Accord in December 2013 and January 2014. The report was submitted by the review team in March 2014.

Washington Accord is an international agreement between prominent nations of the world and is a charter that promotes mobility and quality assurance of engineers across international boundaries. Charter of the accord needs setting-up of suitable accreditation standards that ensures minimum quality of attainment for their engineering graduates.
