India hosts 15th Asia Media Summit

The Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), New Delhi and Broadcast Engineering Consultants India Limited (BECIL), is hosting the 15th Asia Media Summit (AMS-2018) in New Delhi from May 10-12, 2018.

The Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting and Textiles, Smriti Zubin Irani presided over the inaugural ceremony of the summit as the Chief Guest.

The summit is a prestigious annual event in the Asia Pacific Region, which is organised by the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) in collaboration with its partners and international organizations.

India is hosting the event for the first time.


“Telling our Stories Asia and More”

The theme aims to encourage dialogue and cooperation in Media Sector in the region

The summit mainly aims to provide a unique opportunity to the broadcasters in Asia to share their thoughts on broadcasting and information.

Key Highlights

The summit would be organised in two parts pre-summit workshop (8-9) and summit (10-12).

It is expected to see in attendance participants from organizations such as ministries responsible for information and broadcasting in the Asian region, international organizations like UNESCO, FAO, UN, radio and television broadcasting companies, television channels and media research and broadcast equipment manufacturers.

It aims to encourage regional and bilateral dialogue and cooperation to respond to challenges to the broadcasting sector in the region.

It would provide a unique opportunity for broadcasters in the Asian region to share their thoughts on software and hardware aspects of Broadcasting.

It would also provide opportunities for networking, facilities for business to business meetings and prospective translation of these meetings into trade and economic relations after the summit.


Over 200 foreign delegates representing 39 countries of SAARC, ASEAN, East Asia, Africa, Oceania, Europe, Syria, Uzbekistan, USA and China are expected to attend the summit.

There would be over 100 Indian delegates as well.


The agenda of the summit would include plenary sessions on media regulation policies: ethics, rules and laws and our exciting stories.

Parallel sessions would be held on Asian values as broadcasting themes.

In the concluding session, World Television Awards 2018 would be presented by Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore.

The closing ceremony would witness the handing over of the baton for hosting the next summit to Philippines.

About AIBD

Established in 1977, the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) is a unique regional inter-governmental organisation servicing countries of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP) in the field of electronic media development.

It is hosted by the Government of Malaysia and the secretariat is located in Kuala Lumpur.

The AIBD is mandated to achieve a vibrant and cohesive electronic media environment in the Asia-Pacific region through policy and resource development.

The Institute seeks to fulfill this mandate by mobilizing the intellectual and technological resources available within the national broadcasting organizations of its member countries as well as regional and international bodies through a well-established infrastructure and networking mechanism that includes government agencies, non-governmental organizations, institutions of higher learning, private sector and individual professionals.
