Inquiry ordered into explosion at HPCL plant in Visakhapatnam

Petroleum Ministry has ordered a high-level inquiry in the HPCL Vikash Refinery blast. About six people were killed and 40 were injured in the accident.

The Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry on 24 August 2013 ordered a high-level inquiry into the explosion that took place at Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, HPCL plant in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

Background: A major blast took place at the HPCL Vikash Refinery on 23 August 2013 leading to the collapse of the under construction cooling tower of the ongoing diesel hydro de-sulphurisation expansion project. The reason for the blast that caused massive fire is yet not known.
