The Iranian Parliament (Majlis) on 24 May 2011 imposed sanctions on 26 US officials, including former defence and intelligence chiefs, for their alleged involvement in the killing of civilians and the torture of suspects in US-run prisons. The officials on the list include former Secretary of Defence Donald Rumsfeld, the commander of the US forces in Iraq Raymond Odierno and former FBI chief Thomas J. Pickard.
Earlier, USA and European Union on 23 May 2011 imposed their sanctions drive against Iran’s nuclear programme.
