LIVE West Bengal Election Result 2021: TMC poised for a big win, Mamata Banerjee wins Nandigram

Mamata Banerjee, while addressing her supporters in the first briefing after her win, urged them to follow COVID protocols, wear a mask and take care of their health. She said that this is Bengals victory and assured that dealing with COVID will be her government's first priority.

The Election Commission has issued a statement saying that the counting has not slowed down but due to heavy load the server has slowed down. The Commission assured that the counting is continuing in the constituencies without any let-up.

NCP chief Sharad Pawar congratulated Mamata Banerjee as TMC continues to maintain its huge lead in West Bengal. SP leader Akhilesh Yadav also congratulated MamataBanerjee.

TMC's Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay is leading from Bhabanipur constituency, the current seat of CM Mamata Banerjee. Chattopadhyay is pitted against  BJP’s Rudranil Ghosh and Shadab Khan of Congress.

From current trends, Mamata Banerjee continues to trail by 3775 votes behind BJP's Suvendu Adhikari in Nandigram constituency. However, TMC continues to lead in 202 seats out of 284 seats.

Mamata Banerjee may be losing from Nandigram assembly constituency, but she is poised for a big overall win, as TMC is currently leading in 198 seats. As the trends keep building, the chances of a big win for BJP are dwindling. 

BJP's Loknath Chatterjee is trailing in the Ballygungse seat (BJP) by 15842 votes, TMC's Subrata Mukherjee is leading from the seat.

Tollyganj Constituency Trends: TMC's Aroop Biswas is leading from Tollyganj by 8339 votes, while BJP's Babul Supriyo is trailing.

As per the latest by the Election Commission, the TMC is leading on 125 seats, BJP on 64 seats and Independents are leading on 2 seats and Rashtriya Secular Majlis Party is leading on 1 seat.

As per media reports, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee is leading currently from Nandigram.

The halfway mark of the 294-seat West Bengal Assembly is 147, which means a party would need to win 148 seats to form the next government in the state.

While it is clear that Mamata Banerjee will be sworn-in for the third term if TMC wins, the BJP is yet to announce a CM face. Several senior BJP leaders are in the fray to be named the CM face of the party including Babul Supriyo, Suvendu Adhikari, Swapan Dasgupta, Mukul Roy and Dilip Ghosh.

A majority of the exit polls have predicted a neck-to-neck battle between the BJP and Mamata Banerjee's ruling TMC. According to India Today-Axis My India exit poll, TMC is predicted to win a 44 percent vote share, while the BJP is predicted to win a 43 percent vote share.

The West Bengal Assembly Elections 2021 witnessed a major face-off between the BJP and the ruling TMC.

The third major player was the 'Sanjukta Morcha' coalition of the Left, Congress and Indian Secular Front (ISF).

The election in two assembly constituencies -Jangipur and Samserganj in the Murshidabad district was deferred due to the death of two Sanjukta Morcha candidates. They were supposed to go to the polls under the seventh phase of polling. The two assembly seats will now go to polls on May 16th and their result will be declared on May 19th.

Polling was held in 292 assembly constituencies across West Bengal out of the total 292 Assembly Seats. The term of the West Bengal Assembly is scheduled to end on May 30th.

West Bengal Assembly Elections were held in eight phases, spread across March and April. The polling for first phase took place on March 27, second on April 1, third on April 6, fourth on April 10, fifth on April 17, sixth on April 22, seventh on April 26 and eighth on April 29 respectively.

It was a clean sweep for Mamata Banerjee-led TMC in the 2016 West Bengal Assembly polls, as the party won 211 seats in the 294-member Assembly, which is way above the majority mark. The Indian National Congress was the second-largest party with 44 seats, followed by CPM that won 26 seats. The BJP had managed to win just 3 seats back then.
