Madras HC directed Tamil Nadu government to ban beauty contests in colleges

The Madras High Court on 6 February 2015 directed the state government of Tamil Nadu to issue a circular banning beauty contests in colleges and other educational institutions of the state.
Justice T S Sivagnanam passed an interim order on a plea and said that it is not known as to how walking the ramp would benefit a student pursuing a course of engineering.
The judge directed the Secretary, Higher Education department and the Commissioner of Technical Education Department, to issue a circular to all institutions, Universities, Deemed Universities, and Colleges affiliated to various universities in the state to ban or not to conduct any beauty shows in their Institution or in any event organised at Inter-College Level.
