To honor the demise of philanthropist and industrialist Ratan Tata, the Maharashtra government has declared Thursday, October 10, as a day of mourning throughout the state.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde was quoted in a government statement stating that all national flags in Maharashtra's government buildings and offices will fly at half-mast in observance of the holiday, according to news agency PTI.
Maharashtra Mourning: All Government Events Cancelled
The state has canceled the day's scheduled government events. When visiting the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai, Maharashtra Minister Deepak Kesarkar declared, "All of the state government's programs in Mumbai have been canceled for tomorrow, due to the death of industrialist Ratan Tata."

Indian Flag Fly at Half-Mast in Maharashtra
Moreover, the National Flag at all government offices will fly at half-mast in Maharashtra. This is done in order to mourn the death of one of India’s most philanthropic industrialists Ratan Tata.
Eknath Shinde, the chief minister of Maharashtra, called the industrialist's passing "sad news for everyone" in his condolence message.
He further said, “Gem of India Ratan Tata is no more, this is very sad news for everyone. A large number of people were inspired and motivated by him. He is the pride of Maharashtra. He helped thousands of people. Ratan Tata was the Kohinoor of our country. He has contributed immensely to the nation. He was a 'desh bhakt' and 'desh premi'.”
Final Journey for Ratan Tata in Mumbai
The mortal remains of Ratan Tata will be kept at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) in south Mumbai on October 10, where the public can pay their final respects from 10 am to 3:30 pm.
At 4 pm, the final journey will begin towards the Prayer Hall at the Worli Crematorium on Dr. E Moses Road, where the last rites will be held. Abhinav Deshmukh, Additional Commissioner for the Mumbai South Region, confirmed that all necessary police arrangements will be in place to ensure a smooth process.
According to Eknath Shinde, the chief minister of Maharashtra, the final ceremonies will be carried out with full state honors.
