Saudi Arabia to allow women into sports stadiums from 2018
Turki Al-Asheikh, Chairman of the General Sports Authority of Saudi Arabia, on 29 October 2017 announced that women will be able to attend sports events in stadiums starting from 2018.
In this regard, the authority will start the repair works at three main stadiums in Riyadh, Dammam and Jeddah to accommodate families starting in 2018.
The move is aimed at empowering and engaging women in the society as an integral part of the development process.
India, Japan begin Anti-Submarine Warfare Exercise 2017
The Indian and Japanese navies on 29 October 2017 began intensive air anti-submarine warfare exercise in the Arabian Sea, Indian Ocean. The exercise will conclude on 31 October 2017.
Indian Navy's two P-8 I Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance Anti Submarine Warfare aircraft and two P-3C Orion jets of the Japanese Navy will participate in the exercise.
The exercise is taking place at such a crucial time when there are concerns over growing presence of Chinese ships and submarines in the Indian Ocean.
Kidambi Srikanth wins men's singles title in 2017 French Open Superseries
Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth on 29 October 2017 won the men's singles title in the 2017 French Open Superseries in Paris. Srikanth defeated Japan's Kenta Nishimoto 21-14, 21-13 in the finals to clinch the title.
This is Srikanth’s fourth victory in the Superseries singles titles after winning the 2017 Denmark Open, 2017 Indonesia Open and 2017 Australia Open. With this, Srikanth became fourth men’s singles player to win four or more Superseries titles in a calendar year.
The French Open is an annual Badminton tournament held in France.
