1. (a) Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi

Indira Gandhi's full name is Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi, née Nehru. She was Jawaharlal Nehru's only child. She was the first and only female prime minister of India   

2. (b) 19 November, 1917

On November 19, 1917, in Allahabad, India, Indira Gandhi was born. She spent a year studying at Visva-Bharati University in Shantiniketan, now located in the state of West Bengal, before moving to Oxford, England, to continue her education.

3. (a) Three Consecutive Terms

Indira Gandhi, an Indian politician, and the country's first female Prime Minister, held the position for three terms in a row, from 1966 to 1977, and then for a fourth term, from 1980 until her untimely death in 1984.

Indira Gandhi was so powerful in Indian politics by the end of 1977 that D. K. Barooah, the president of the Congress party, came up with the expression "India is Indira and Indira is India.”

5. (a) 1975

It was inevitable that Indira Gandhi would lose her parliamentary seat and be barred from politics for six years after the Allahabad High Court ruled against her in 1975. Despite her appeal to the Supreme Court, Indira Gandhi did not receive a favorable response. Subsequently, she took matters into her own hands and declared a national emergency. 

6. (b) Political Unrest

At midnight on June 25, 1975, the Emergency was declared abruptly. On the advice of the government led by Indira Gandhi, President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed invoked Article 352 of the Indian Constitution to declare an emergency in response to internal unrest. The Emergency remained in effect from June 25, 1975, to March 21, 1977, lasting a total of 21 months.

7. (a) Sanjay Gandhi

Sanjay Gandhi, the son of Indira Gandhi, was elected to the Lok Sabha and served as her principal political advisor. Legal proceedings against both Indira and Sanjay Gandhi were dropped. Sadly, Sanjay Gandhi died in an airplane tragedy in June 1980. He was seen as the political heir apparent to succeed Indira within the Indian political establishment.

8. (c) 1984

On October 31, 1984, at 9:30 a.m., Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated at her residence on Safdarjung Road in New Delhi. She was killed by her Sikh bodyguards, Satwant Singh and Beant Singh, following the Indian Army's Operation Blue Star, which occurred between June 1 and 8, 1984, under her instructions.
