Rajasthan Minister of State for Rural Development and Waqf, Amin Khan resigned on 10 February 2011 following a direction from Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. Waqf Amin Khan’s comment on the president of India gave rise to a controversy. Khan had reportedly said in his speech to party workers that Patil had curried favour with the Gandhi family by doing dishes and cooking food for former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the late 70s. The President's office and the Congress high command had both reportedly sought an explanation from the chief minister on Khan's remarks.
Khan is the fourth-time MLA from Sheo in Barmer district. His exit reduced Muslim presence in the Rajasthan Council of Ministers by half. The only other Muslim minister in the council is Health and Family Welfare Minister Imaduddin Ahmed.
