Rajiv Mehrishi appointed as Union Home secretary

At the time of appointment, Mehrishi was holding the post Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, Finance Ministry.

Rajiv MehrishiRajiv Mehrishi, 1978 batch IAS of Rajasthan cadre, was appointed as the Union Home secretary. He will occupy the post for two years with effect from 31 August 2015. He was due to retire on the day of appointment, but was given an extension of two-year.

He succeeded LC Goyal, an IAS officer of 1979 batch of Kerala cadre.

At the time of appointment as the Home Secretary, Mehrishi was holding the post of Finance Secretary. He is the third Home Secretary of the present NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Besides, the Prime Minister also approved the request of LC Goyal, outgoing Home secretary seeking voluntary retirement from government service due to personal reasons with immediate effect. He was appointed as the Home Secretary in February 2015 after Anil Goswami sought voluntary retirement after his name had emerged in a CBI probe for granting favour to an accused in the Saradha chit find scam, Mathang Singh.
