Human Resource Development Ministry on 12 Feb 2010 decided to notify The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 marking the end of Ministry’s conflict with the Finance Ministry over budgetary allocation for implementing the Act. The Fundamental Right to Education was enacted for the first time in Dec2002. The governments in subsequent years made several attempts to pass the Right to Education Act to operationalise the Fundamental Right to Education. It was enacted in August 2009 after several abortive attempts. From 1 April 2010, children in the 6-14 age group would finally get their right to education.
