The Indian government on 21 Jan 2010 appointed Shiv Shankar Menon as the fourth National Security Adviser (NSA). Menon retired as the Foreign Secretary in 2009. He succeeded MK Narayanan, who was designated the Governor of West Bengal. Brijesh Mishra was the first National Security Advisor.
