The State Legislative Assembly of Sikkim on 26 February 2014 unanimously passed the Sikkim Lokayukta Bill-2014. The passed bill is aimed at providing transparent and corruption free governance in the state. It empowers people to file petition against any corrupt individual may be he is a Chief Minister to Panchayat and from Chief Secretary to peon.
The bill was introduced by the Chief Minister Pawan Chamling, who is also the In-Charge State Law Department. This bill will become a law after the assent of the Governor, Sriniwas Patel.
This bill is based on the central Lokpal Bill. It is expected, that the Bill will benefit people of Sikkim by providing a chance to fight against corruptions and irregularities in governance and certain public functionaries.
