Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Bill 2011 Passed

India Current Affairs 2011. West Bengal Assembly passed the Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Bill, 2011 on 14 June 2011. The main objective of the Bill was to return the land to the Singur farmers, whose land was taken by the Ex West Bengal Government’s (Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee) administration.

The Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Bill, 2011 was passed in the West Bengal Assembly on 14 June 2011. The Bill was passed by voice vote. It was presented in the West Bengal Assembly to hand over 400 acres of land at Singur to the farmers who never accepted compensation for their land from the government. The Bill vested 997 acres of the Nano plot with the government for the eventual return of about 400 acres to the concerned farmers of Singur. This plot was sought by Nano as it had planned India's first Nano factory of Tata Motors at Singur in Hooghly, which is about 40 km from Kolkata.

The main objective of the Bill was to return the land to the owners, whose land was taken by the Ex West Bengal Government’s (Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee) administration.
