The stability certificates of all the nine stands of M.A. Chidambaram Cricket Stadium Chepauk was cancelled by the Tamil Nadu Government on 13 May 2013.
Three stands I, J and K were sealed by the Chennai Cooperation on 13 May 2013 on charges of unauthorized building at the cricket stadium. This action of the authorities of Tamil Nadu came up as a follow up after the Supreme Court granted an interim stay against the 6 February 2013 order of the Madras High Court that favoured the Tamil Nadu Crickets Association to use the stands.
The Madras High Court in its decision had set aside the orders of different authorities of Tamil Nadu namely Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority, Tamil Nadu Housing and Urban Development Department, the Chennai Corporation and the Additional Commissioner of Police, in 2011 and 2012 that restrained the State Cricket Association from using the reconstructed stands in the stadium.
