Super 30 movie: Hrithik Roshan-starrer Super 30 movie released on the big screens on July 12, 2019. Super 30 narrates the story of Anand Kumar, a mathematician from Patna, who gives free coaching to underprivileged kids in Bihar, enabling them to crack IIT entrance exam. A day before Super 30 release date, Super 30 founder Anand Kumar revealed that he is suffering from a rare medical condition, acoustic neuroma, a brain tumour.

Anand Kumar revealed that he wanted his biopic to be made quickly while he was alive. He said that the film writers wanted him to give permission for the film as quickly as possible. “You have no idea of life and death, so I wanted this biopic to be made while I am alive,” explained Kumar.

Super 30 founder Anand Kumar diagnosed with brain tumour

Super 30 founder Anand Kumar revealed that his health had worsened in 2014 and he lost 80-90 percent of hearing ability from his right ear. Anand Kumar then underwent a series of tests in Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital where he was told that there were no issues in his ear but his hearing ability had reduced due to the development of a tumour in the nerve that runs from ear to brain. The condition was diagnosed as a very rare one called acoustic neuroma and Anand Kumar was given 10 years to live.

Due to his rare condition, Kumar wanted that the Super 30 film to be completed quickly while he was alive and he ensured that the script of the film remains authentic to his life. "I made sure that till the time I am alive, my journey should be narrated in a right manner. So for that, I read the script 13 times so that nothing goes wrong,” he said. He continued by saying, “Today I’m happy that my biopic is going to be released at a time when I am hale and hearty.” The Super 30 founder is being treated at Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai.

What is acoustic neuroma?

An acoustic neuroma is a noncancerous growth that develops on the main (vestibular) nerve that connects the inner ear with the brain. The nerve has two different parts, one which transmits sound and the other that helps send balance information from the inner ear to the brain. Acoustic neuroma usually grows slowly over a period of years.

Though the tumour cannot enter the brain, it can become large enough to press on the brain stem or cerebellum and prove to be deadly. The tumour can also cause hearing loss, ringing in your ear and unsteadiness.

Treatment of acoustic neuroma

The treatment for acoustic neuroma comprises regular monitoring, radiation and surgical removal.

Acoustic Neuroma Symptoms

The symptoms of acoustic neuroma may take years to develop. It usually starts with a gradual loss of hearing, which people often also attribute to growing age. Besides the impact on hearing, the tumour also often causes ringing in the ears and a feeling of fullness in the ear. The tumour also has an effect on balance nerves, causing dizziness and unsteadiness. On rare occasions, the tumour causes a sudden loss in hearing.
