Surface to surface strategic PRITHVI (P-II) Missile developed by DRDO was successfully flight tested at on 26 September 2011, from Launch Complex-III, ITR, Chandipur, Balasore District in Orissa. The launch operations were carried out by the Armed Forces as a part of regular training exercises.
The launch was monitored by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) scientists. The flight test of the Prithvi missile met all the mission objectives.
PRITHVI-II, the first indigenous surface to surface strategic Missile, capable of hitting targets at ranges of 350 kms, reached the predefined target in the Bay of Bengal with a very high accuracy of better than 10 meters. The surface-to-surface missile has a range of 350km and can carry a warhead weighing up to 500kg.
Prithvi-II was flight-tested a number of times as part of regular user trials.
