The Tamil Nadu Government in the month of May 2013 decided to implement a 1481 crore Rupees Coastal Disaster Risk Reduction Project with financial assistance from the World Bank.
As per the Chief Minister, J. Jayalalithaa, 121 Coastal Safety Centres, roads up to 50 km to these centres and 439 warning systems is supposed to be facilitated under this project. The Project would be managed by Tamil Nadu Disaster Management Authority, with the necessary infrastructure facilities that would be created for the Authority.
The Government also has decided to make underground electric line in the Coastals district of Cuddalore and Nagapattinam to reduce loss during natural disasters.
As per the TN government, the work would be started by the end of year and is supposed to be completed in the next five years.
