Internationally popular Desert Festival started at Thar Desert, Jaisalmer in Rajasthan on 12 February 2014. The festival started with a ceremonial procession from Jaisalmer Fort Gate (also called Golden Fort due to its yellow sandstone structure) to Shahid Poonam Singh Stadium. The festival will conclude with kite show and cultural programmes on sand on 14 February 2014.
• The Desert festival of Rajasthan takes place in Jaisalmer in the month of February every year and lasts for three days.
• The Rajasthan tourism organizes the Jaisalmer Desert Festival.
• Desert festival has become a synonym of colour, music, folk performances, camel tattoo show, camel dance and camel competitions. The famous fire dances, folk music and dance are the major attraction of the desert festival celebrations of Rajasthan.
• Other interesting competitions on the fringes are the moustache and turban tying competitions, which not only demonstrate a glorious tradition but also inspire its preservation.
