The 2019 Nobel Prize in Chemistry has been awarded to M Stanley Whittingham, Akira Yoshino and John B Goodenough for their transformational work in the development of fossil-energy free lithium-ion batteries. The batteries are capable of storing huge amounts of energy from renewable energy sources such as solar power and wind power. The powerful batteries are used in wireless electronic devices.
Global Competitiveness Index 2019: India slips to 68th rank, Singapore replaces US at top
India has been ranked 68th in the annual Global Competitiveness Index 2019. India was ranked at the 58th position in the 2018 Competitiveness Index. This year, Singapore topped the index, pushing the United States to the second rank. Overall, the index ranks 140 countries based on 12 pillars.

India gets first Rafale fighter jet, Rajnath Singh performs Shastra Puja and flies sortie
India has officially received its first Rafale combat aircraft. The aircraft will not, however, arrive in India before May 2020. Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh personally participated in the Rafale handover ceremony. The Defence Minister also took a sortie on the fighter jet, piloted by a French pilot. Singh said that he travelled at supersonic speed for the first time and it was an amazing experience.
Nobel Prize 2019 in Physics awarded to James Peebles, Michel Mayor and Didier Queloz
The 2019 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded in two halves, one half to James Peebles for his theoretical discoveries in physical cosmology and the other half was jointly awarded to Michel Mayor and Didier Queloz for the discovery of the first exoplanet. The exoplanet discovery changed the dynamics of astronomy, as since then over 4000 exoplanets have been discovered.
