The 18th edition of Asian Games began in Jakarta, Indonesia on August 18. Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia snatched the spotlight on the Day 1 of the 18th Asian Games by opening India’s gold medal account. Punia won his maiden Asian Games gold in the 65kg category by defeating Japan's Takatani Daichi 10-8 in an exciting final bout.
2. (b) Kofi Annan
Kofi Annan, former UN Secretary-General passed away on August 18 after a short illness. He was 88. He was the only African to helm the post of UN Chief. He served for two terms from 1997 to 2006. He was also awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2001 for his humanitarian work.
