1. (a) 25 January
The 9th National Voters' day was observed across India on January 25, 2019 with an aim to increase enrolment of voters, especially of the newly eligible ones. This was the ninth edition of the Day. The day also aims to spread awareness among voters regarding effective participation in the electoral process.

2. (b) Biofuel
After months of ground and flight trials, the Centre for Military Airworthiness and Certification (CEMILAC), a premier military certification agency, on January 22, 2019 cleared the use of indigenously produced bio-fuel for use in the military aircraft.

3. (c) Jan Shikshan Sansthan
Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Petroleum and Natural Gas (MSDE) on January 24, 2019 launched new reforms and guidelines for Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) to further strengthen the skills ecosystem benefiting those in the underprivileged sections of society.

Navy Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba commissioned the new Naval Air Base ‘INS Kohassa’ at Diglipur in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The Naval Air Base will enhance the maritime capability along with keeping the northern part of Andaman sea and the area under surveillance.

YES Bank appointed Deutsche Bank’s Ravneet Singh Gill as its MD and CEO, who will succeed Rana Kapoor. Gill, who is the CEO of Deutsche Bank’s India operations, will join the private lender on or before March 1, 2019.

Eminent Hindi author and poet Krishna Sobti passed away at the age of 93 in Delhi on January 25. The writer was known primarily for writing about issues of female identity and sexuality. She was offered the Padma Bhushan in 2010, which she had declined.

Veteran South African all-rounder Johan Botha has announced his immediate retirement from all forms of cricket. The cricketer cited wear and tear on his body and sheer physical fatigue as the main reason behind the decision. He had previously retired from international cricket after the 2012 World Twenty20, signing a contract to captain South Australia in Australian domestic cricket.

8. (d) Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul
The Committee of Administrators of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has lifted the suspension on Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul. Both were suspended from the Indian team for their controversial remarks on women on a TV show. The BCCI has also confirmed that Pandya will join the Indian team for the New Zealand series while Rahul will join the India ‘A’ squad.

9. (a) Dhalbhumgarh
The Union Government has decided to renovate and develop around 400 abandoned airstrips across the country to strengthen air-connectivity. The first such airstrip to be developed into a modern airport will be Dhalbhumgarh in East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand.

10. (a) Rs 18000
The disability or war injury pension for armed forces personnel shall be minimum Rs 18,000 per month, as per the Union Defence Ministry. The Ministry has decided that the disability or war injury pension, special family pension and liberalised family pension shall be minimum Rs 18, 000 per month for Defence Forces pensioners, with effect from January 1, 2016.
