1. (a) Mumbai


The National Khadi Festival 2018 is being organised by Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) to promote Khadi products. The festival was inaugurated by Union Minister for Micro Small & Medium Enterprises, Giriraj Singh in Mumbai on October 2, 2018, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti 2018. The main objective of the festival is to promote the products of cottage industry and create awareness regarding the art of states.

2. (c) Odisha

The state government of Odisha has launched its own food security scheme to benefit the 25 lakh poor people who were left out of the National Food Security Act (NFSA). The scheme will benefit 25 lakh vulnerable populace.

3. (c) Iraq

Iraq's Parliament has elected a veteran Kurdish Politician Barham Salih as the country's new President. He has named Shiite Adel Abdul Mahdi as Prime Minister of the country. The move will pave the way to form a new government, nearly five months after national elections.

4. (b) Guwahati

India's third highest national flag was unfurled in Guwahati, Assam, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.The 319.5 feet flag pole is the highest in the country with respect to the average elevation of the city. Considering only the height of the flag pole, it is ranked the third highest in the country after the one in Indo-Pakistan border at Attari (360 ft) and Pimpri Chinchwad Bhakti Shakti Chawk, Pune (351 ft).

5. (d) Mohd Mushtaque Ahmad

Hockey Bihar's Mohd Mushtaque Ahmad has now been elected as the President of Hockey India following the 8th Hockey India Congress and Elections held on October 1, 2018. Ahmad who formerly held the Secretary-General post will now take over from outgoing President Rajinder Singh after being elected unopposed.

6. (d) Kolkata

The Mayor of Kolkata Municipal Corporaton (KMC) has recently launched India’s first Flood Forecasting and Early Warning System (FFEWS) for Kolkata City to help city officials and citizens act decisively to minimize damage before and during disasters.

7. (b) SAFER

The World Health Organization (WHO) has recently launched a new alcohol control initiative ‘SAFER’ to prevent and reduce alcohol-related death and disability. It provides five high-impact strategies that can help governments reduce the harmful use of alcohol and related health, social and economic consequences.

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has expected India’s economy to grow 7.0 per cent in calendar year 2018 compared with 6.2 per cent in 2017. As per the report “Trade and Development”, the effects of demonetisation are still evident in private consumption trends within the economy.

9. (b) Assam

The Public sector Assam Petrochemicals Limited will roll out India’s first methanol-based alternative cooking fuel at Namrup methanol plant in Dibrugarh district, Assam on October 5. The pilot project involves 500 burners and stoves, each fuelled by a 1.2-litre canister of methanol. It will be priced at around Rs 32 and about 18 of them would be equivalent to one conventional domestic LPG cylinder.

10. (d) October 2

The International Day of Non-Violence was observed across the world on October 2, 2018, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the leader of Indian independence movement and pioneer of the philosophy and strategy of non-violence.
