What are the Income Tax reforms announced in Interim Budget 2019?

ANSWERS

1. (d) Arunachal Pradesh

The people of North East have received significant benefits of infrastructure development. The north-eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh came on the air map recently with the Finance Ministry giving its approval to the construction of the Hollongi airport in Itanagar, the state’s capital city.

2. (a) Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi

To provide assured income to small and margiunal farmers, the Government has introduced a historic yojana- Pradhan mantra kisan samman nidhi. Under the yojana, the vulnerable farmers, who own around 2 hectares of land, will get direct income support of Rs 6000 per year.

3. (c) Rs 6000

Under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (KISAN), the vulnerable farmers, who own around 2 hectares of land, will get direct income support of Rs 6000 per year. The income support will be transferred directly to the account of the beneficiary farmer in three equal installments of Rs 2000 each. It would be fully funded by the Government of India.

The government aims to make women in rural India free from the smoke of wood by providing cleaner fuel. Finance Minister Piyush Goyal presented the Interim Budget 2019-20 on February 1, 2019. It was the last Budget of the Modi Government before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Rs 60000 crore were allocated for the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Gurantee Act (MGNREGA)

There are 21 All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) functioning currently in India. Of these 21, 14 AIIMS were set up under the present government. The 22nd AIIMS will come up in Haryana.

9. (b) Rs 3000

Considering that half of the GDP comes from the unorganised sector, Finance Minister announced the launch of the mega pension scheme ‘Pradhan Mantri Shram-Yogi Maandhan’ for the unorganised sector workers with income of less than Rs 15,000. Under the scheme, the workers will be able to earn Rs 3000 after attaining the age of 60 years.

10. (b) Rs 5 lakh

Individual tax payers with taxable income of up to Rs 5 lakh will get full tax rebate from now on. Those earning Rs 6.5 lakh will not have to pay tax, if they invested in specified savings such as PF, PPF, etc.

11. (c) Rs 64,587 crore

The capital support from the budget for railways is proposed at Rs 64,587 crore in 2019-20. The railways’ overall capital expenditure programme is of Rs 1,58, 658 crore.

12. (d) Rs 19000 crore

Finance Minister Piyush Goyal presented the Interim Budget 2019-20 on February 1, 2019. It was the last Budget of the Modi Government before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The Budget allocates Rs 19000 crore for Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana for construction of more rural roads.

The Scheme ‘Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi’ will provide assured income to small and marginal farmers. Vulnerable farmers with 2 hectares of land will be given Rs 6000 per year. The complete expenditure of Rs 75000 crore for the scheme will borne by the Union Government.

14. (a) Rs 2.4 lakh

The Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) on fixed deposits and postal deposits will be exempted for interest earned up to Rs 40,000 from Rs 10,000 currently. The rent up to Rs 2.4 lakh will be exempted from TDS.
