The Union government on 28 June 2011 appointed M V Tanksale, executive director of the country's No. 2 state-run lender Punjab National Bank (PNB), as the new chairman and managing director of Central Bank of India. Tanksale who began his term on 29 June 2011 will remain in office till 31 July 2013.
Prior to joining PNB as Executive Director, Tanksale had a long stint of 36 years in Union Bank of India, starting from the position of Assistant Manager and rising up to the post of General Manager.
He was elevated to the position of Executive Director in Punjab National Bank on 26th March 2009. During his stint in PNB, he made extensive efforts in promoting bank’s products such as e-banking, third party products- insurance, mutual funds and instrumental in setting up of a new division for Transaction Banking.
Tanksale is expected to give Central Bank of India a new direction in facing the emerging challenges.
