Union Government on 25 January 2016 launched Sahaj Scheme for online booking of LPG cylinders. The booking can be done through the unified web portal www.mylpg.in which is available in 13 languages.
The facility was launched by Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas (Independent Charge) Dharmendra Pradhan. He said that the government is targeting to add 10 crore new LPG connections by December 2018 to the existing 16.5 crore connections.
The facility will enable people to book the cylinder around the clock, which will help delivery of the cylinders even in their absence because the payment is already done. This will also eliminate hassles of exact change needed for payment or avoid delivery failure due to no cash situation.
The minister said that government has plans to ease the process of LPG refills and new connections and few of them are
• Installation of touch screen devices at prominent locations like airports, railway stations etc where consumers can book for their LPG refills.
• The new cooking gas connections will be provided on an EMI basis under which the connections will cost up to 3400 rupees on an EMI basis. The amount can be spread over 24 installments.
Earlier in January 2016, the Union Government dedicated the year 2016 as the "Year of the Consumers".
