Veteran journalist and advertising professional, R. Narasimhan passed away on 10 August 2011. He was 86. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
Narasimhan joined The Hindu as a sub-editor in 1950. After working for seven years, he shifted to The Hindustan Times before becoming an editor of the Tamil evening daily, Navamani.
He was responsible for the formation of The Hindu Office and National Press Employees Union and held the posts of vice-president and general secretary of the Madras Union of Journalists.
He took to advertising, joining the Marketing and Advertising Associates to head its Chennai office. Narasimhan became a leading figure of the advertising community in the city and held the post of president of the Advertising Club in 1983-1984.
