The Bharatiya Jnanpith on 3 August 2010 removed the V-C of Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University, Wardha, Vibhuti Narain Rai from the selection panel of Jnanpith awardees for making derogatory remarks against women writers. Vibhuti Narain Rai had called woman writers "chhinal". He had later offered his apology to HRD minister Kapil Sibal on 3 August 2010.
