The Vice President of India Hamid Ansari on 29 May 2014 presented the Malti Devi Gyan Peeth Puraskar-2014.

The Vice President of India Shri Hamid Ansari on 29 May 2014 presented the Malti Devi Gyan Peeth Puraskar-2014. The award was given to fifteen outstanding teachers from girls higher secondary schools in Punjab.

The awardees were facilitated with 1 lakh rupees cash, appreciation letter and a Robe of Honour. The initiative was mainly taken to promote the quality teaching in the schools besides encouraging the hundred percent attendance of girl students in the government schools.

The Puraskar was organized by the Mohinder Singh Syngle Education and Research Society, in cooperation with the Government of Punjab.

The teachers of government High and Senior Secondary Schools teaching Physics, Chemistry, Maths, English and Social Sciences was considered for the award. Moreover, the teachers already awarded with the National or State Awards was not considered for this award.

Currently, 75% population is educated in India. Although it is higher in comparison to the share of 12% in 1947 but it is very low in comparison to world average of 80-85%.
