Noted Hindi poet Vishwanath Prasad Tiwari was on 10 March 2011 selected for the 20th Vyas Samman for his poetry collection, Phir Bhi Kuch Rah Jayega. The collection for which he was chosen for the Vyas Samman, Phir Bhi Kuch Rah Jayega was published in 2008 and is a collection of 34 poems. The collection of poems focuses on humanity and its many folds. Title poem Phir Bhi Kuch Rah Jayega is at the end of the collection and it unfolds a dialogue. Poems like Kahan Dekha Hai Ise outlines the history of considerations related with women whereas the poem. Other poems include Anant Janmon Ki Katha, Bhaya, Deh and Uske Dukh.
Apart from his work in verse, Tiwari in the past published seven anthologies, seven works in criticism, two travelogues, a memoir and a collection of interviews. Tiwari has a special place as a poet, editor as well as a critic. He retired from Gorakhpur University in 2001 as the head of the Department of Hindi and Aacharya.
The collection of poem was selected for the award by a committee presided by eminent litterateur and former head of the department of Hindi in the Lucknow university professor Surya Prasad Dixit through a rigorous process. The selection committee also included Dr Kailash Vajpeyi, professor Ramesh Chandra Shah, professor S Sesharatnam, Dr Deepak Prakash Tyagi, SM Agarwal, and director of the KK Birla Foundation NK Bhattacharjee.
The prestigious Vyas Samman was instituted by the KK Birla Foundation carries an award of Rs 2.5 lakh.
Some of the eminent persons who have been given the Vyas Samman in the past include Mridula Garg, Giriraj Kishore and Chitra Mudgal.
