1.(a) Sputnik V
Russia has decided to name its first COVID-19 vaccine as ‘Sputnik V’ after the world’s first satellite. President Vladimir Putin announced the approval of the vaccine candidate less than two months of human testing amid skepticism from scientists.

2.(c) UAE
US President Donald Trump has announced a historic peace deal between Israel and UAE, under which Israel has agreed to suspend its plans to annex parts of the West Bank.

3.(c)Andaman and Nicobar Islands
The submarine Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) connecting Chennai and Port Blair was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 10, 2020 via video conferencing. Under the project, a 2,300 km long optical fibre cable has been laid undersea between the two cities that will help enhance telecom and Broadband connectivity in Andaman and Nicobar islands.

4.(d) August 9th 
President Ram Nath Kovind honoured and felicitated 202 freedom fighters from across the country on August 9, 2020 on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of Quit India Day. Every year, the President hosts an at Home reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan on the anniversary of the Quit India Movement to honour freedom fighters. 

5.(b) Assam 
The Assam state government is all set to roll out Arunodoi Scheme from October 2, 2020, with an aim to provide financial assistance to around 17 lakh families in the state. Under the scheme, Rs 830 will be given every month to the eligible 17 lakh families to buy the essential items of food.

6.(a) EU
The European Union has announced €1.65 million humanitarian aid to support those affected by severe flooding in South Asia, most notably India, Bangladesh and Nepal. 

7.(d) Indonesia 
Indonesia’s Mount Sinabung erupted on August 10, 2020 spewing massive tower of smoke and ash into the sky, plunging local communities and villages into darkness. Mt. Sinabung, which was dormant volcano for almost 400 years, roared back to life in 2010.

8.(b) Mauritius 
Mauritius' Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth declared a state of environmental emergency on August 7, 2020 after a shipwreck caused a massive fuel spill. A Japanese-owned ship, which had ran aground on July 25, was leaking tons of oil. The ship is reportedly carrying nearly 4000 tons of fuel oil and 200 tons of diesel on board.

9.(c) Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia has ended its loan and oil supply to Pakistan, ending the decades-long friendship between the two countries. Pakistan has also been asked to pay back USD 1 billion to Saudi Arabia, which was given as a part of a $6.2 billion package announced by Saudi Arabia in November 2018. 

10.(c)Kamala Harris
Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden chose California Senator Kamala Harris as his vice-presidential running mate for the 2020 US Elections on August 11, 2020. This makes Harris the first black and Asian American woman to compete on a major party's presidential ticket in the United States.
