Former Philippine leader Corazon Aquino (76) passed away on August 1. She was Asia’s first female president. Aquino is best remembered for leading the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution, which toppled the authoritarian regime of the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos and restored democracy in the Philippines. She later received several awards and citations for her work to promote democracy and human rights.
