Himachal Pradesh’s literacy rate has witnessed aloft tendency and it was 82.8 % as per Census 2011. The male literacy rate was 89.53 % however the female literacy was 75.93 %. Rural literacy rate of Himachal Pradesh as per Census 2011 was 81.85%. The total number of rural Literates was 4,471,736. Out of which the females were 2,033,915 and males were 2,437,821. The literacy rate of rural males was 89.05 % and that of rural females was 74.62 %.
Total number of urban literates in Himachal Pradesh was 568,000 out of which males were 314,769 and females were 253,231. The urban literacy rate of Himachal Pradesh as per 2011 census stood at 91.1%. The literacy rate of urban males was 93.42 % and that of urban females was 88.37 %.
