The success story of Indore as the cleanest city in India- EXPLAINED

Indore has secured the title of the cleanest city in the country for the sixth time in a row due to its smart waste management. Indore processes over 1,900 tons of urban waste every day. This helps the city fuel its buses and gives it crores of rupees.

Usually, the garbage is segregated into dry and wet categories. However, Indore takes a step ahead in segregating the garbage into six distinct categories at a collection point.
Indore holds a population of 35 lakh people. Every day, the city generates 700 tons of wet waste and 1,200 tons of dry waste, yet, the city is garbage-bin-free.
“We have 850 vehicles which collect waste from households and business establishments and segregate it into six categories," the cleanliness wing superintendent engineer of the Indore Municipal Corporation, Mahesh Sharma said.

Not to miss, there exist separate compartments for various types of waste. This sorting of garbage at the initial stage of garbage collection is the reason for efficient processing.
