In a total lunar eclipse, the inner part of the Earth's shadow known as the umbra falls on the moon's face. At mid-eclipse, the whole moon is in shadow and can appear blood red.
In a partial lunar eclipse, the umbra small part comes out or only a fraction of the moon. The dark part grows larger and then recedes and so could not reach to the total phase.
In a penumbral lunar eclipse, the outer shadow of the Earth that is the penumbra falls on the moon's face. This type of lunar eclipse is much more subtle and difficult to observe than the other two moon eclipses. Like partial eclipse no dark bite or part taken out of the moon. The eclipse doesn't progress to reach the dramatic minutes of totality. At mid of the eclipse, very observant people will notice a dark shading on the moon's face while others will look and notice nothing at all.
On 5 July, 2020, the Moon will be enough close to opposite the Sun than its northern part will pass through the partial shadow of the Earth and this is called partial penumbral eclipse.
It will also be visible from America and the slight dimming part of the Moon should be difficult or impossible to notice without the help of an instrument. Around the eclipse, the Moon will appear full for about three days that is from Friday evening into Monday morning and makes it a full Moon weekend.
