Imagine being able to quickly show how you feel about a message without typing a single word. That's exactly what WhatsApp is working on. The popular messaging app is testing a new feature that lets you react to messages by simply double-tapping them.

The feature was noticed by WABetaInfo, and it mentions: “It appears that WhatsApp is now focused on developing additional tools to make it faster for users to react to messages. Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.16.7 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is working on a double-tap reaction feature!”

How the Feature Might Work:

Right now, if you want to react to a message on WhatsApp, you have to tap and hold on it, then choose an emoji. It's a bit slow, right? The new feature aims to change that.

  • Double-tap magic: When this new feature is ready, you'll be able to quickly react to a message just by double-tapping it.
  • Default heart: WhatsApp might automatically show a heart emoji when you double-tap, but you could probably choose other emojis too.
  • Faster and fun: This would make chatting more fun and engaging, letting you quickly share your thoughts and feelings.

WABetaInfo mentions: “By double-tapping on a message, users will be able to instantly react to messages with a default heart emoji, saving time as they no longer need to open the reaction tray. Users will only need to open the reaction tray when they want to react with a different emoji than the default heart emoji, adding flexibility while maintaining efficiency.”

Why is WhatsApp Working on this Feature?

WhatsApp is always looking for ways to improve the app and make it more enjoyable for users. This new feature is part of that effort. By making it easier to react to messages, WhatsApp hopes to encourage more interaction between people.

WABetaInfo states: “This feature aims to significantly speed up the reaction process, making it even more convenient for users to express their feelings quickly. The double-tap reaction feature is designed to save time and enhance communication through a default heart emoji, ensuring users can always stay engaged in conversations without interruption.”

When will the Feature Roll Out?

Unfortunately, there's no exact date for when this feature will be available to everyone. WhatsApp is still testing it, so it might take some time before it's ready to be released. But when it does, it's sure to be a popular addition to the app.
