Struggling to remember the name of that catchy song stuck in your head? Fear not, music lovers! YouTube Music has rolled out a new "Hum-to-Search" feature, allowing you to identify songs simply by humming, singing, or whistling the tune.
Gone are the days of scouring lyrics websites or relying on vague Google searches. This innovative feature leverages advanced audio recognition technology to match your hummed melody to its vast music library.
The feature was noticed by 9to5Google and it states: “In YouTube, it’s currently available on Android and accessed by launching search and tapping a new “Song” (vs “Voice”) tab. You can play, sing, or hum, just like Hum to Search in Google Search. YouTube is using “AI to match the sound to the original recording.”
How the Hum to Search Feature Works?
Using the YouTube Music app is all you need. Here's a quick guide:
- Open the YouTube Music app on your Android device (iOS users might have to wait a bit longer).
- Tap the search bar or locate the dedicated "hum-to-search" button (depending on your app version).
- Hum, sing, or whistle the melody of the song you're trying to identify for around 10-15 seconds.
- YouTube Music will analyse the audio and generate a list of potential matches based on its closest musical fingerprint.
- Browse the results and see if your song is there! You can then play the song or add it to your playlist.
This feature utilizes Artificial Intelligence (AI) to analyze the core melody and rhythm of your hummed tune. By comparing it to its extensive database, it can identify songs with similar musical structures.
The beauty of this feature is that you don't need perfect pitch or professional singing skills. Even a simple hum or whistle can be enough for YouTube Music to recognize the song, making it accessible to everyone.
With the hum-to-search feature, discovering new music or finding forgotten favorites becomes effortless. It opens up a world of possibilities, allowing you to explore genres and artists you might not have encountered otherwise.
