Maharashtra Governor Vidyasagar Rao, on Monday, will perform the bhoomi-pujan and lay the foundation stone at Mumbai University (MU) for the Professor Bal Apte Centre for Studies and Youth Movements. The Studies and Youth Movements Centre at MU is due to come up at Kalina campus of the University. The bhoomi-pujan will be performed by RSS Joint General Secretary, Dattatrey Hosbale. Former CM Manohar Joshi along with ministers Vinod Tawde, Chandrakant Dada Patil and Ashish Shelar are few dignitaries expected to be present at the function.
As per media reports, a financial support worth Rs. 25 crore has been offered by the state government for the upcoming centre. Reports also suggest the salaries of as many as 11 faculty members will be borne by the Maharashtra government. Moreover, the Mumbai University has also received additional funds of Rs. 12 crore from district development fund, apart from the financial funds received through CSR from several organizations.
The Youth and Movements Centre at Mumbai University will enhance the skills of students to join NGOs on a local and international level. Through the centre, students studying at the centre will be able to work as social and political analysts at the United Nations and other global organizations.
A statement from Mumbai University read the centre has come into existence for scientific research and study of these movements where youths and student movements have given more than required towards social revolution.
