After implementing the tuition fee waiver scheme (TFS) in engineering and other bachelor courses, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) will now make the scheme available to the students pursuing Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Computer Applications (MCA) and other postgraduate diploma courses. The move of the council is welcomed by the students.
“We have been getting requests from various quarters to extend the benefit of TFW Scheme to other post graduate courses. The matter was placed before the Executive Committee which deliberated and approved to extend the existing tuition fee waiver scheme only to MBA, MCA, PGDM, PGDCA courses in which no scholarship/stipend is available,” read a release from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) on Wednesday.
Under TFS, the students whose annual family income is less than 6 lakh from all sources are eligible to apply under this quota. Also, upto a maximum 5% of sanctioned intake per course will be allowed for waiver.
College managements said that as most of the students in the state are eligible for the fee reimbursement scheme, not many in Telangana opt for TFS.
“But, definitely having an alternate option should encourage more students to opt for postgraduate courses,” said Goutam Rao, president, Telangana Private Engineering Colleges Managements Association.
